I figured I could pin our first dollar to the blog, so here it is.
I got a daily sales report for 8/22 and it shows that I have sold 1 copy of Teen Driving Log.
Wow! I got home tonight and had an email from Apple. Teen Driving Log is now available in the App Store. Just head on over to Teen Driving Log if you want a copy.
I got an email today that said that Teen Driving Log is In Review. That is good news. It was submitted on 8/11 and In Review on 8/19 (so, 8 days). That probably is not bad. I assume that it should be In Review for a day or two at the most. Then it is either ready for sale or rejected (well, let’s hope it does not get rejected).
The web is full of tutorials. They cover just about anything. In creating Apps, the tutorial sites as well as other sites, have provide me with a great way to find answers on how to do many things. It sure makes App writing a little easier.
So, I will be adding a tutorial section fairly soon – as soon as Teen Driving Log is approved by Apple. I hope I will have a little more time after that to write up a couple tutorials.
Keep an eye here for some exciting tutorials.
Have you ever noticed that there are lots of distractions? I am waiting for my first App – Teen Driving Log – to be approved and I have some other ideas for my next App. The problem is that when I start to lay out the App, I have to go online and search for information on how to do certain things. When I do this, I usually get distracted by the wealth of useful information.
My next App will be a little more graphic (ok, not graphic as in violent or anything, but as in pretty pictures). So, I started looking around a little bit for some ideas on what type of graphics would fit in with my view of my App. I ended up on Fully Illustrated by way of Fieldrunners. Yes, I like the graphic design on Fieldrunners and wow, all the good stuff at Fully Illustrated. I would like to have them create the graphics for my next App, but, for now I am planning a free App and that means no budget for fancy graphics (maybe in a future deluxe paid version). We will see.
But for now, I will have to rely on my own graphic skills, so it probably won’t be as fancy as I would like (but, I am sure it will be good enough).
So, anyhow, I wasted the rest of the evening looking at different web sites and games to get some more ideas on what I can do with my App. Maybe tomorrow evening, I can get to work on it.
Oh, yeah, and I am still waiting for Teen Driving Log to be approved.
The App approval process is not as quick as I would like. Teen Driving Log is still waiting for review. I guess it does take some time to review and approve Apps.
So, in the meantime, I decided to pick up another book. This time, I am going to go through The iPhone Developer’s Cookbook. From what I have read, this book approaches App building in a different manner than the Head First iPhone Development book. The Cookbook does a lot more progamatically instead of using Interface Builder. I figure it is good to see how it is done both ways. I am sure there is a happy medium when it comes to interface design and coding – some use of Interface Builder and some use of programatic methods.
I changed my theme. I was using the original Twenty Ten theme, but I found a modification of that theme called 2010 Weaver.
It allows you to make some more customizations (like the rounded corners, some shadows and some color variations).
Not exactly roaches, but a bug. I thought I had fixed the display on the summary page of Teen Driving Log, but for some strange reason it came back.
I had to go into iTunes Connect and reject the binary before Apple started reviewing it.
I fixt the display problem and re-uploaded the App. It looks like it normally takes about a week to get approved.
Development time.
2 months (60 days) – June 11 – August 10
From my estimate of 1 hour/day, plus a couple of weekends where I worked more than an hour a day, that probably puts my time at around 80 hours. That is not too bad. That is like 2 normal work weeks.
I have read the book The Other 8 Hours by Robert Pagliarini. I think that writing this App has been a good use of at least 1 of the other hours of the day. I have learned a lot and hope to make at least a little money off of the App (to pay for my iPhone). When you break it down to a short period of time per day, it does not seem like all that much work.
