Our 3rd App, Orchid Notebook, is almost ready. I will be submitting it to Apple in the next couple days. Here is a sneak peek.
fun and games
I have been looking into Apple’s Game Center. I am currently adding a little game to the Jeep Wave App. Look for an update shortly after the beginning of the new year. I figure it will take me another week or so to get it all set up and then a week or so for Apple to approve it.
I was looking for a way to display achievements to users as they play. I was not sure how I would do it and I came across a blog with an article that showed a good method of showing Game Center Achievements (along with source code). It is nice that people make source code available for others to use. Once I get a get a little more proficient with programming, I hope that I can return the favor and post some hints/tips and source code for some tasks that might be of use to people. I thought about using the default look that they have there, but ended up modifying it to fit in with Jeep Wave a little better.
iPhone screen dimensions
Here is a little picture I put together to help me with designing graphics for the iphone.
what’s green…?
What’s green and looks kind of like this?
Yep – Android. I have finally started looking at porting our Apps to the Android (I had a little push to do this). So, as things develop, I will post updates. For now, I am getting our team together to start learning how to program the Android. It should be fun.
Teen Driving Log 1.2.0
Just a quick update for Teen Driving Log.
We updated the required hours to take into account people in Austrailia who need to complete 120 hours.
We also included a Rating reminder. If you like the app (or even if you don’t), please remember to rate it and if you have time, write a quick review of what you like.
Jeep Wave 1000+
I am amazed. We have passed 1000 downloads of the Jeep Wave App.
I hope you all enjoy it.
We have some new plans for a little upgrade – hint Game Center. I will post more when it gets closer to being ready.
500+ Wow!
Wow! Just over a week and Jeep Wave has passed 500 downloads. Now, everyone that has downloaded it has 3 tasks:
- tell one of your Jeep friends to download it
- click on an ad (or 2) to keep development of this great app going
- submit your Jeep photo into the contest
Oh, yeah, and don’t forget to wave.
Jeep Wave – Available
Finally. Jeep Wave is available on the App Store. Quick download it now.
I learned a bunch from this App. Contests are a little tricky when they are tied into an App. I did not fully understand the rules set out by Apple. But, everything is fixed now and Jeep Wave is available for your iPhone (for you Android users, I am still trying to work something out).
Enjoy it.
cocos2d
I have been thinking about making a game App. I have a couple ideas, so I figured I would look around and see if I could find out how to make a game. There is a lot of information out there. I think that a game will be a little more of a challenge to create than some of the other Apps.
I found a framework that looks like it will make creating a game a little easier. It is called cocos2d. I will be looking deeper into that more to see if it will work out for me. It takes care of a lot of the details in App design that should make it easier to understand the whole process. Cocos2d takes some of common method that you need in order to make a game and makes them easier to work with.
I will post more later. I need to go watch some tutorials on cocos2d.
Jeep Wave
This one is a little slow in getting out. I didn’t realize that if you include a contest with your App, you have to make sure that people know that Apple is not sponsoring it (yeah, it is rule 20.2 in the App submittal guidelines – so I should have read that).
The App was rejected. I had to add the official rules into the app and re-submit it. I guess you go to the bottom of the list when you re-submit. It should be available any day now, so the wait is almost over.
